Képaláírás: Madách Imre (Emerich Madách), the pride of Hungarian literature. His dramatic poem, "Az ember tragédiája" ("The Tragedy of Man"), which ranks with Goethe's "Faust" in international literature and has been translated into most of the languages of Europe, has proved a success on more than one foreign stage. It is one of the permanent items of repertory of the Hungarian National Theatre. Certain scenes of "The Tragedy of Man" have been illustrated by Zichy Mihály (Michael Zichy), recognised internationally too as one of the most eminent of illustrators.
